Gastric Balloon has been used in the treatment of obesity for many years. It creates a feeling of fullness and acts as a volume reducer in the stomach due to its space occupancy. It is still the most widely used intragastric device today.

There are liquid or air-inflated types. In addition, the volume can be adjusted and the types that are inflated through the skin by placing on the stomach have been developed. Those with liquid content can be inflated about 400-800 ml.

Depending on the types of gastric balloon, it can stay in the stomach for 6 – 12 months. Complications such as infection, deflating of the balloon and corrosion may occur during long-term stays. It can be applied more than once.

The rates of loss of excess weight in obesity due to short and medium term gastric balloon are promising. However, the long-term results are discussed. Gastric balloon is used for primary obesity treatment as well as as a preliminary preparation for bariatric surgery in super obese patients. As long as the patients comply with the given diet, they lose weight in the range of 15-20% in their average weight.

The patients apply to the hospital hungry on the day of the procedure, after the necessary consultations, the balloon is placed in the stomach. The procedure takes about 15 minutes and the patient can leave the hospital 2 hours after the procedure.
